You know you're in DC when you see a car driving around with a Bumper Bully flapping in the breeze

Street parking in DC can be a challenge . I often see cars in the city, and out in the burbs, driving around with !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! still deployed. 99.9% of these cars   have DC tags, even out in the burbs. Come on y’all, you’re supposed to put that shit back in the trunk when you’re done parking!

While the 328i convertible above has DC tags and I took that picture within the city limits, this Prius, which I encounter semi-frequently in my particular corner of the burbs, is the 0.1% of deployed-Bumper Bully cars with a non-DC tag. This one has a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and Maryland tags. Maybe they live in downtown Bethesda or Silver Spring.

It also has three frankly ridiculous cushions stuck to each back door, but I wasn’t able to catch a pic of the sides of the thing. This time. You will be mine someday! (You can kiiiinda see them on the left side of the car.)

These things are everywhere in Chicago. If you drive a nice car, don’t you realize that hanging a doormat over the bumper ruins the aesthetic way more than some scratches would?

You always see them hanging off the back in traffic like they haven’t been touched in months.  I’m sure having a heavy rubber flap rubbing against the paint while you drive around is much better than risking the occasional parking ding.

I associate those more with NYC, however it seems they’ve been gradually making their way up and down the Northeast Corridor. I know I’ve seen them around Philly on cars with New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania plates.

Fascinating, I’d never heard of these.

I’m not opposed to using them when parking. Nobody’s good at parallel parking and a lot of the residential city streets can be crazy narrow with endless parked cars on either side. But driving off with the thing hanging off the back of the car is baffling.

I agree, if I drove something nice and parked on the street , then I would have one of these for sure, especially since its common practice to park by feel around here.

They probably leave them deployed to hide the damage from before they got them.

Nobody owns cars long enough out here to worry about bumper damage ...

You see cars with New York tags out on the Atlantic City Expressway with them flapping in the breeze.

That's close enough to Philly to count as "around Philly".
